J.S. Acker Musical Showcase
Known simply as "Acker Night" in the Prescott community, The J.S. Acker Musical Showcase has become a highlight of the holiday season and one of Prescott's favorite hometown events.

This free, annual, holiday event showcases the many talented musicians in the Prescott area in a most unique way. More than 80 downtown businesses open their doors to host musical groups of every genre, turning Prescott’s downtown into a veritable smorgasboard of entertainment for the thousands of patrons who come out to enjoy the event each year. The History of “Acker Night”
Mr. Acker first moved to Prescott, Arizona in the early 1900's, originally ran a general store that provided among other things, school and music supplies to children. After a short absence Acker returned to Prescott in the 1930's and operated a real estate company. During that time, he began accumulating parcels of property around the community. When Mr. Acker died in 1955, he left a number of those parcels of land to the City of Prescott, to be used for parks and music programs for children.

In 1988 Prescott resident LaVon Anderson, who was a strong advocate of children's music program herself, had a dream to mesh music and Prescott's historic downtown together in a memorable event.

Music and the Christmas holidays was a natural pairing and she used that marriage to spearhead the J.S. Acker Musical Showcase in December 1988. The J.S. Acker Musical Showcase was quick to take off. The event now features over 80 Prescott downtown businesses with over 100 musicians.

Our Mission
The goals of the showcase include:
Promotion of musical culture in the community
Increase funding for local youth programs
Highlight local downtown businesses.

The J.S. Acker Music Park Association is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) established for the advancement of musical culture in the community and to fulfill the wishes of Prescott's benefactor, James S. Acker, in "the promotion of music, particularly for children". The event is organized by volunteers, performed by volunteers and supported by volunteers.

Donations collected as well as support from the community sponsors help provide music scholarships to area children to assist in their musical interests. Proceeds from this event have provided local area schools assistance with their music programs from buying much needed musical instruments to assisting in transportation to competitions. Many of these recipients participate in the showcase as performers
